The annual larger then life convention of National Association of Broadcasters NABShow in short is coming to Las Vegas April 16-21, 2016. This will be the 10th year in the row that FileCatalyst will be attending NABShow. Our booth will be in South Lower Hall (SL10716), our CEO Chris Bailey will also be taking part on the education part by presenting “4k and beyond: issues of large file sizes for broadcasters"

But before I book the flights and hotel to Las Vegas to go to NAB this year, let’s review what I will be looking forward to see at the show this year:

The broadcasting industry is perpetually challenged with the enormity of its content file sizes… the battle for mobility and the ever tighter production deadlines versus the ever growing sizes and new or improved file formats rages on.

At present, I am finding the 4K and 8K workflows compel me to consider how the larger file sizes will affect the purchasing decisions of broadcasters and production studios. Will the ever growing need to store and process those larger files continue to show purchasing decisions for the ever bigger/faster storage and media servers or… will the broadcasters and studios move to the cloud and start embracing pay as you go services? I think that the jury is still out on this one and we will continue to see vendors at NAB tending to both camps for few more years to come.

I’m also interested in continuing to follow the UHD vs 4K format discussion to see which of the formats will prevail. 4K format seems to be pulling up ahead… a bit but it’s still too early to tell. Perhaps we will see both standards succeed, which in a diverse market such as media will not be a surprise.

With Digital Production Partnership (DPP) and FIMS picking up steam in Europe, I’m looking forward to seeing how the standardization of media handling will be manifested by broadcasters in North America. Will these standards be adopted or at least loosely adopted?

最終的に, I’m a big fan of holographic technology and I love to see the big strides this technology has made in the last 5 years at NAB. I always enjoy watching the holographic demonstrations from Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications and NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corp.).

If you are planning to visit NAB this year, come and see us at our booth. We will have some new great products to show. The preview of our software at NAB will be published soon, so stay tuned to that blog.
