Ottawa, ON – FileCatalyst, an Emmy® award-winning pioneer in managed file transfers and a world-leading accelerated file transfer solution, has announced that IO Interactive has deployed FileCatalyst Direct to help them move content, and deliver their classic game franchises, to developers and players even faster.

Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, IO Interactive is an independent video game developer that has been delivering top-tier games since 2002. IO Interactive is the creative force behind the classic long-running Hitman franchise, the Kane & Lynch franchise, Mini Ninjas, and Freedom Fighters. They strive to deliver unforgettable and engaging world-class entertainment, and their games are designed to play and feel like the people who create them, ensuring that all of their titles deliver a unique and interesting experience. With FileCatalyst’s world-leading fast file transfer technology in their arsenal, IO Interactive is able to take the strain out of moving content and can focus on creating gameplay experiences they have come to be known for over the last two decades.

While developing their games, IO Interactive was constantly challenged with managing large data transfers across multiple outsourced studios, located in Europe. Many of their daily transfers exceed 1TB, and they have to maintain rigid schedules to stay on track. When using traditional FTP/TCP-based solutions, latency, packet loss, and other forms of network degradation had detrimental effects on the efficiency of their development. In order to overcome these challenges, IO Interactive has deployed FileCatalyst Direct and the FileCatalyst HotFolder client application.

FileCatalyst Direct is a suite of server and client applications that enables point-to-point fast file transfers which are capable of reaching speeds of up to 10 Gbps. HotFolder is a FileCatalyst Direct client application that provides automated download and upload folders that can be set to user-defined intervals, ensuring that every endpoint has the most current version of every file.

Since deploying FileCatalyst Direct, IO Interactive has maximized their bandwidth and substantially boosted productivity by allowing them to send large files in a fraction of the time it takes when using FTP/TCP. By setting up overnight upload and download tasks at each endpoint via FileCatalyst HotFolder, IO Interactive has removed the need for human interaction during transfer tasks, allowing development to continue immediately.

“FTP-based solutions no longer meet our needs, so we had been looking for a solution that can send large files quickly and reliably. FileCatalyst has filled this need by allowing us to send critical files exponentially faster than FTP/TCP,” said Mads Laksø, IT Architect & Team Lead for IO Interactive.

“We are very happy to be part of IO Interactive’s development and distribution system,” said Alan Atkinson, VP of Business Development & Marketing for FileCatalyst. “IO Interactive can rely on FileCatalyst for secure, reliable and fast file transfers for all of their processes. This, in turn, provides their developers and clients with a seamless and exceptional experience.”
